Superstar practicing at home!

I just received a very exciting video of Kristiana practicing her Gym skills at home in her new leotard, with some great group photos and even her little sister practicing! Thank-you. Check it out :)

Term 3 week 6

This afternoon was very exciting! We handed out school leotards to those who had brought in their money to borrow a leotard for the year. WOW the girls look so professional now! Thank-you again to the Keno's for the leotards. The Gymnasts were so excited. I was also feeling so happy to see all the Gymnasts practicing their routines looking so smart!! I'm thinking about organising for the boys a black/navy blue singlet with the same school crest/ Gymnastic logo printed on the tops to match in with the girls. Here are a few photos from today's session as well as some group photos of the amazing Gymnasts!

Term 3 week 6

Eager Gymnasts have been practicing their routines during lunchtimes. Here is Tess practicing her floor routine for the 12 and over age group. Lovely stretched body and pointed toes.

SPECIAL GYMNASTIC NOTICE FOR THE GIRLS                                      28.8.14
Dear Parent/caregiver,
We have some exciting news for our gymnasts. A delivery of leotards has just arrived ready to wear for our Friday gym sessions just in time for our competition. We will also have them to wear for our special display next term.
A HUGE thank-you to Anna and Dan Keno who are sponsoring our Gymnastics club at school and have organised and donated this big box of leotards. They are navy blue to match the St Joseph’s colours and have the school logo on them too.
We will be hiring out the leotards to you at a cost of $5 for the season. The leotards will then need to be returned at the end of the year. It will be fantastic to see the girls wearing the leotards on a Friday. They are similar to togs, but underwear is to be worn under the leotard. Shorts can be worn over the leotard.
Once your payment has come in I will issue you with a leotard! Please take the money to the office as soon as possible.
You MUST take good care of the leotards. They are made from a delicate fabric. They won’t need to be washed every week with the Gym session only being 45 minutes long! When washed they will need to be hand washed. Just rinse and squeeze them out in a bucket or sink – DO NOT PUT INTO THE WASHING MACHINE.

Thanks,

Chantelle Jackson

7&under floor routine practice

7&under floor routine

Tess in Year 7  has been a fantastic helper at our Gymnastics club. She demonstrated today how to do the 7& under floor routine. She takes her time and holds each element for 2 seconds. It is controlled. The 7 & under's can watch this and practice their routine. The headstand needs to be in a crouched position and held for 2 seconds.

Term 3 week 4 8&9 year old bar routines

Here are some photos of the 8&9 year old's practicing their bar routine outside with Suzie. The children are learning to step forward and circle backwards, cast 3 times with straight arms, head down, hollow chest, then roll forwards slowly with straight arms in complete control to hang in a tuck position- hold for 2 seconds, lower to start position and hold- hang directly below the bar with straight legs out front on floor , head pinned between ears. The children are working on their upper and lower body strength.

Term 3 week 4 10&11 year old vault

Polly in Year 8 has been a fantastic helper at our Gymnastics club. She demonstrated today how to do the dive roll for the 10 & 11 year old vault routine. Arms must swing underarm sharp and fast. The body is straight when in flight with the body touching the mat and roll as late as possible. The children are practicing their underarm swing and a secure landing to the feet to stand and stretch.

Term 3 Week 4-7&under floor

Here are some of our fantastic gymnasts practicing their floor routines for the 7& under age group. The children are working on holding their headstand in the crouched position for 2 seconds. Keep practicing at home! The knee balance needs practice too- it needs to be held for 2 seconds. Take your time in the routine, slow down, stretch and point your toes!

Term 3 Week 4-7&under beam routines

Here are some of our fantastic gymnasts practicing their beam routines for the 7&under age group. Remember to point your toes and keep looking straight towards the end of the beam! You need to hold your tummy in, shoulders pressed down , squeeze your thighs together and stretch your arms and fingers.  Practice at home walking along a straight line. Great work!

Term 3 week 3

Last week we had a great session practicing floor routines, beam and vault. We couldn't get outside to practice the bar because of the weather. Hopefully we can get out tomorrow if it doesn't snow any more!

Kelly and I have been busy trialing kids for the upcoming 'Top School's competition' against other schools in Oamaru. I would love to take all of our eager gymnasts who have all made HUGE improvements, but can unfortunately only take a few kids for each age group- 7& under, 8&9 year olds, 10&11 year olds and 12 and over. I have been handing out letters with the information to the children chosen with a copy of the routines. Please can you read over the routines and if there is a chance help your child to practice! We will be having lunch time sessions to continue learning and practicing the routines. I would appreciate any help if you are available any day from 12:10-12:40.

If your child has not received a letter and hasn't been chosen they won't miss out. We will be organising a Gymnastics Celebration display and all children will be involved in this display next term!

Term 3 Week 2

We had 31 students attend this afternoon. We practiced floor routines, beam routines, vault and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine to practice bar routines outside. It is so rewarding to see the students progress! Thank-you to our fantastic coaches!
